Enchanting Changes

With the new expansion of the World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King, and its multitude of upgrades and improvements, looks to have provided a breath of more-than-welcome fresh air to the cult game. One of the most noticeable improvements is enchanting changes.

In Burning Crusade, we think that dust was too common and enchants were basically gated by the cost and availability of shards. We want to adjust this for Lich King and in retrospect overcompensated, such that dust is now the rare, limiting reagent.

Some of the enchantments require dream shards will now take a few more than they currently do. In the first instance, we assume that they'd just be slightly increasing the chance to gain dust/essence from disenchanting. Having just finished collecting all Wrath enchants, we can tell you the enchantments that are likely to change and cause the value and demand.

Others don't have near the demand to cause any change in the Dream Shard prices. So there probably won't be a huge increase in shard prices, but perhaps enough to stock up on them now so you can sell scrolls in a few weeks and earn a tad more profit.

In the game, enchanting has been one of the more frustrating talents, being little more than a service profession, and a pretty basic one at that. In spite of its shortcomings, it has still been a prerequisite to mastering so much of what players really wanted (and needed) from the game.

With many improvements from the release of Wrath of the Lich King, it has brought with it significant changes to professions. Amongst these, and to the benefit of Enchanters, are those that will make it easier for Enchanters to (finally) start producing saleable goods that can, at last, earn them decent gold in the auction house. At the very least, this will offer an alternative to the, by now monotonous, wow gold -via-disenchanting route.

One of the biggest changes to Enchanting is that Enchanters will now be able to trade enchants (as a result of the Vellums that Inscription creates). These Vellums can be instilled with enchants which can then be sold at auction; thereafter, they can be used by non-enchanters to enchant their own gear, effectively making Enchanting a trade profession.

Before you Enchanters get too excited, just bear in mind that the Enchanting profession has also taken some knocks as a result of many other professions or other options offering alternatives to enchants that are just as effective (if not better). This may have already led people to starting to curb their use of enchants.

The ability to sell enchants now makes them much more valuable or possibly desirable than they ever were, but just be mindful that the demand may dwindle in many sockets and armor slots as the game progresses.

As mentioned above, the enchanting changes we talk about here, we may hope this content is beneficial for all of you. By the same token, we best hope that you all can get the hang of it without difficulties.
