No plans to add a 40-player dungeon

I don't know why people keep asking for this. I understand that the nostalgia of hitting a big grand army of 40 people seems so wonderful and truly epic. But as soon as you hit it you'll lose the desire and remember how fucking terribad it was. At present we want to talk about something to you, that's to say, we have no plans to add a 40-player dungeon into Wrath of the Lich King. We fully anticipate making the 10 and 25-player dungeons and raids challenging as a part of their progression.Perfect example you can try for yourself. Remember UBRS? God I remember UBRS. We had to get 15 people together, pray somebody had the key, and then plug in there for 3 hours or so to get to Drakk only to then find out that your chestpiece, never dropped. But you think today and say "Oh man UBRS I miss UBRS." Try running it now. It's boring, and old, and has a lot of trash. It's no longer, fun or worthwhile.

The same situation plays out with 40 man raiding. Look at 25 man raiding and how even now it has the potential to become a pain in the ass when so and so can't log on or is running late. Fact of the matter is I hope Blizzard does not go back at all to their 40 man raid style. Most of the time there were scummy people riding the coat tales of the few good players in the raid and getting gear as a result. 40 man raids have great potential in PVP and in world encounters, but not in a dungeon. And for the record I do indeed have tons of fond memories of Molten Core, Blackwing Lair, and Ahn'Qiraj. Didn't have too many fond ones in Naxxramas though hehe, that was like trying to get 39 trained chimps to play DDR with the green goo shotting up fromt he ground, let alone the freaking gargoyls that wouldn't die.

We currently have no plans to add a 40-player dungeon into Wrath of the Lich King. We fully anticipate making the 10 and 25-player dungeons and raids challenging as a part of their progression. You can say what you like about whether or not a 10-player dungeon is truly challenging if you wish, but they take coordination and require each player to play their role to their best ability to succeed. However we haven't ruled out the possibility of ever adding a 40 man raid in this expansion or the one after should we feel it's something we would like to do.

To be honest, this is my own opinion. I miss the old 40 man raiding and everytime I read that the raiding enviroment in Wrath will be 10/25 manabl. Along with the same comparsion with your "scummy people riding the coat tales of the few good players in the raid and getting gear", as a result it is that really so different in allowing a group of people who can't get into a guild because of lack of a better reason, they just flat out suck. Why does one guild who can't get their crap together and think they're the greatest thing to happen since sliced bread get to have the same benefit of one who spent hours upon hours getting to that point? I wish Blizzard would stop catering to the people who just flat out suck and need to be spoonfed everything in a game and keep attunement quests and the such in place. But on the same note, I respect their ability to keep the money market there. You'll always have your crummy people in a raid, no matter what you try to do.

As for the worry that scrub guilds with crappy people in it are going to see the end game, I wouldn't get so excited. The content is not easier, the gear just isn't as much a check as it used to be. You won't see guilds that just cleared Kara and slapped together with a bunch of crappy players last more than 2 seconds in BT. However it does mean that more people will get to see that stuff before it goes into the black box of 40 man raids that nobody ever sees anymore.

The best way to gauge is to ask yourself this: how many people actually stepped foot in Naxx? Not even fought a boss but actually zoned into the instance before BC came out. And now that getting AD rep is much harder due to the level/reputation gap and how many can even try to get into Naxx?

When Burning Crusade came out and raids dropped in size, lots of the bigger guilds took a hit where the best geared and core members reformed into a 25 man system. After a while it leveled out. I think the same is going to happen again where these big ass guilds that have all this stringent dedication are going to break up and reform again and we'll be discussing the same argument when Arthas is released. Look at DnT and Forte.
